Fly fishing for steelhead on the Klickitat River

Outstanding Flyfishing on the Klickitat – 10/3/2019 

River flows are decent, water clarity is high, however, steelhead are around. Fish caught throughout the day including a few salmon. Weather conditions were ideal with light rain in the morning and progressively cooler temps throughout the day. The highlight of the day was a customer boiling a steelhead on a skated dry fly.

Vern Olson catches a steelhead on fly while fishing the Klickitat River on one of my recent trips to Hood River. My introduction to steelhead fishing. Although, I realize the sporty way to catch them is by “swinging”. We did not get any that way.
